Some Info On Fencing
Swords and fencing is one of the oldest weapons and sports.
Fencing is mainly associated with the time of duelling in th 17th/18th century Europe and when winning was a matter of honour. Even though the first hand book for fencing was written during the renaissance Period.
As duelling went into decline after WW1, Fencing Continued on as a sport.
With fencing you will gain and develop your coordination and balance. It's also an ideal way to improve you fitness and keeping fit for all ages.
There are three types of weapons used in today's fencing, Foil, Epee & Sabre.
Foil: This weapon was mainly developed to train people in the art of duelling making it the oldest of the weapons. To gain a point in foil the aim is to hit the opponent with the point of the foil on the torso.
Epee: The epee was developed when duelling went into decline and is the closest out of the three weapons to a duelling sword.
To gain a point in epee again it is made by using the point, but unlike thefoil, the whole body is the target from the head down to the feet.
Sabre: The sabre is taken from the cavalry swords with it's long cutting edge. To gain a point in sabre unlike the foil and epee the edge of the blade is used in a slashing motion to hit the target which is from the waist upward including the head. The sabre is usually the most uncommon of the three weapons used.
